Environmental Science

  • Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitor Center: This site covers the exhibits and marine science education opportunities available to educators and the public at this free Visitor Center. The Center is an educational, interpretive, and research facility created as a partnership between the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge and the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve. Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitor Center
  • ARM Education Website: Contains informational resources related to climate change.  Department of Energy/ARM Program
  • Discovery of Global Warming: This site presents the history of climate science from the 1890s to the present. The study of climate has been a tangle involving many different fields of science, from solar physics to ocean chemistry, not to mention crucial interactions with public opinion and governments.
  • DITC Environmental Education Foundation, Inc.: This is a public education project funded by DITC Environmental Education Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization whose goal it is to bring environmental awareness through education to all, but particularly eight- to ten-year-old children. This interactive site is designed to be a teaching tool to be used in the classroom and at home to broaden children's environmental education. DITC-EEF, Inc.
  • Drey Land Ecology Study: This site describes a program where students become residents of a wilderness camp. While at the camp the students study the ecology of a pristine stream and muture oak-hickory forest. John Burroughs School

  • Global Water News Watch : This news alert service covers water news from 136 countries, based on stories and press releases published in seven languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Farsi and Greek). The home page highlights high-profile stories and recent developments.   • Horseshoe Crab: A comprehensive award-winning website providing information about the natural history, paleontology, and anatomy of the horseshoe crab.   • Hubbard Brook Student and Teacher Resources: The Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest is a Long Term Ecological Research site located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The HBES Teacher and Student Resources website, designed to accompany the main HBES site, was developed for middle and high school students and their teachers. Students can view a virtual introduction and tour, visit the glossary, learn about new research, read about HBES scientists, and more.   • Oceanography: An ONR Science and Technology Focus Site: An interactive site designed to expose students and teachers to the elements of oceanography. It features a "Cyberscientist" to whom students can conveniently submit questions by e-mail. Office of Naval Research
  • Office of Environmental Education: This website provides extensive information of interest to science educators on many environmental education initiatives. The site includes information on grants, advisory boards, resources, educator training, scholarships and fellowships, and upcoming events. EPA Office of Environmental Education
  • Solar Matters/Solar Wonders: A new educational unit, "Solar Matters," for upper elementary/intermediate/middle school grades is now available online. It has been developed by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), a research institute of the University of Central Florida, to provide teachers with information needed to extend their students' understanding of science by experiencing solar energy firsthand. It includes more than 25 hands-on activities that can be used in science, mathematics, social studies, and other curriculum areas.
